UNGA 77 Science Summit Session “Fit for the futures: Strategic Foresight 4 SDGs”

The 17 SDGs are an urgent call for action by all countries in our global partnership as they are at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The current dynamic development in geopolitics, the environment and climate as well as the economy are leading to new challenges that must be addressed while implementing the SDGs.

Their achievement depends strongly on the ability to enrich our mindset and stories about the future in order to give us greater knowledge on which to act in the present. Still, Strategic Foresight has not found its way into political planning as a natural toolset in all these areas. In this session at the UNGA 77 Science Summit, policy and science experts will discuss the benefits of Strategic Foresight and its use for implementing the SDGs and explore different plausible methods to better prepare for the futures.

About the Science Summit at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77): ISC and its partners will organise the 8th edition of the Science Summit around the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77) on 13-30 September 2022. The role and contribution of science to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the central theme of the Summit. The objective is to develop and launch science collaborations to demonstrate global science mechanisms and activities to support the attainment of the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030 and Local2030. The meeting will also prepare input for the United Nations Summit of the Future, which will take place during UNGA78 beginning on 12 September 2023.
